Feature Film - Our Baltic Sea

Join us on a journey around the Baltic Sea and experience the lives of those that shape it.

An egg cracks in a pine tree on the east coast of Sweden and a moist little white-tailed eagle raises its beak. At the same time, in Gdansk, a girl called Dominika is born and put to her mother's breast. A few miles off Estonia's coastline a baby seal is suckling its first meal.

These events form the starting-point of a long journey. The eagle shows us life up in the air. The seal tells us about the secrets deep down below the surface. The girl, Dominika, gives us the passage of time and brings attention to our own responsibility as humans. We follow her from the moment she is born until she is eight years old. On her birthday, eight years from now, she takes her grandfather Czeslaw to see the sea for the first time.

Quite early in his career as a plumber, Czeslaw started to question where all the wastewater ends up. Over eight years, we take part in his expectations and fantasies about what the Baltic Sea really looks like. Then, in 2017, he gets the chance to see the vast body of water for the first time, with his granddaughter, Dominika.

At this point, our three protagonists meet again. Dominika gives us hope for the future. The white-tailed eagle sails majestically over the mirrored surface, under which the seal descends like a shadow deep below.
