'If you are looking for natural pest control methods, using household spices is a cost-effective (and organic) option,' explains Thom Rutter, Master gardener and Gardens content editor at Homes & Gardens. 'In addition, many people swear by using cinnamon as a trick to get rid of gnats,' he says. 'It goes without saying, but these natural methods may be less effective than, say, a chemical spray. But, they are certainly worth a try, and will not harm the local ecosystem.'

He is frequently photographed carrying a fresh bouquet, and in a recent interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he revealed that the reason aligns with my philosophy. He states: 'I have this farmers' market near my house. It’s on Sundays, and I just love going there. I love flowers in my house.'

Eric Bramlett, the owner of Bramlett Real Estate, has spent many years helping clients shape living rooms that feel stylish and welcoming, and he keeps returning to white as a color that transcends more fleeting design movements. He says that people choose white for its timeless elegance that serves as the perfect base for bolder pieces, such as artwork and sculptures, as we see in Halle's space.

'The neutral background lets artwork, throw pillows, or a single bright chair make a clear statement without the need to change the whole room,' he says.

'Similarly, it allows for a focus on form and texture. When color steps back, the eye notices the curve of an armchair, the grain of a wood side table, or the weave of a rug.'

'You know what's even better to get them before they even start,' Barbara says of weeds. 'That's the collinear hoe. And you just sort of drag that through the surface, and you cultivate this way. This takes every little weed that's just starting to grow right out. It's like a surgical instrument. If you do this at least once a week, your weeds are kept to a minimum.'

The best Netflix shows, in my opinion, have a set that leaves an impression. From modern mid-century jewels, such as The Queen's Gambit, to the charming Mediterranean interior design in La Dolce Vita, these shows showcase decorating quirks from across the globe and throughout the centuries. Often they're daring, eclectic, but timeless – what more could we want from our interiors?

Below, I've rounded up the shows with the most beautiful interiors, so you can binge-watch in style. Happy viewing.

1. The Queens Gambit

Few shows rival the sheer sophistication of The Queen's Gambit. Arguably the most stylish series I've ever seen on Netflix, every episode exhibits audacious wallpaper patterns, muted paint tones, fringed textures, and geometric furniture that's reminiscent of the era.

The show takes place in the early '60s, with scenes in Lexington, Kentucky, and Paris (among other locations), meaning the design inspiration is truly boundless. While some of the retro style prints and pieces may be risky in a modern home, they're a reminder of why we constantly look to this time for the boldest (and chicest) decor ideas. There's no bad word to say about the aesthetic of this series.

2. Sirens

Sirens is the most talked-about show this summer, and for a good reason. Its set is just as fashionable as the cast (including the likes of Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Meghann Fahy), primarily because of its classic New England coastal style.

While the show takes place on the fictional island of Port Haven, it was filmed around Long Island, while evoking the ambiance of a classic New England destination, such as Nantucket. The show explores themes of wealth and power, meaning we're spoiled with luxe decorating ideas, including a spectacular bird-covered Moooi chandelier and gallery walls that set the blueprint for framing your favorite artwork.

Outside, Sirens has influenced how we decorate our pool area this summer, starting with rattan pieces and pergolas that are as beautiful as they are functional.

3. Lupin

Arguably, any show that uses Paris as its backdrop is automatically beautiful, but few showcase the city's interior design charms as well as Lupin.

While blending both the grandeur and gritty reality of the French capital, it offers viewers a glimpse of impeccably designed apartments, rooftops, and restaurants, many of which are quintessential celebrations of their zip code.

Much of Lupin's set is opulent yet laid-back, showcasing more down-to-earth aspects of Parisian life that are sometimes overlooked in other shows filmed there. It's a real yet aspirational source of modern French design inspiration that's hard not to adore.

4. The Diplomat

Lovers of classic British style, this one is for you. The premise of The Diplomat lends itself to an exemplary English aesthetic, from London's government buildings to the country house where the ambassador Kate Wyler (played by Keri Russell) resides.

Known for its elegance and authenticity (most notably in the scenes inside the ambassador's residence), it includes clever details, such as Drexel furniture, which is familiar to American diplomats. The set features everything you might hope for in an authentic villa, including stone walls, handmade tiles, beamed ceilings, terracotta flooring, and rustic Mediterranean decor that will inspire on shores far beyond the Ligurian Sea.

6. Ripley

It's somewhat impossible to find a series with interiors as powerful as those in Ripley. The set was designed to mirror to wealth and sophistication of the characters, most notably Dickie Greenleaf, and to create a sense of unease and psychological tension – while looking stunning in the process.

The set combines Italian Renaissance and mid-century modern styles, featuring sleek silhouettes, ornate architectural details, and elegant accessories that inspire you to fill your home with hand-curated antiques. The stunning use of art also contributes to the series' overall beauty and thematic depth, making it a must-see for any design lover.

7. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar tackles dark themes, but it is so intelligently portrayed, and part of its success lies in its backdrop.

Set during the early days of Instagram, it's one of the most modern sets to appear on this list, as it combines cozy-chic details with a minimalist loft aesthetic. I love how it makes seemingly disparate design elements, like grout and artwork, feel harmonious.

This show proves that even raw, industrial spaces can feel cozy with the right touches (and provides a host of modern kitchen inspiration throughout). This is the show that almost convinced me to go handle-less with my kitchen cabinets, and I hope you'd feel the same after binge-watching one weekend.

8. Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie perfected the 'Coastal Grandmother' look over a decade before it took over our Instagram feeds. Despite being set in La Jolla, San Diego, the set is a blueprint for old-money coastal decor that's so associated with the Hamptons, with a bohemian twist.

As a long-time fan of Grace and Frankie, I'd say that the set is beautiful yet understated and not overly decorated, which makes it feel more personal to the characters' personalities. The homes feature quirks that seem to have been gathered over time, ideally suited to the characters' personas. It's the perfect watch for summer, especially when you're in the mood for an iced-cold martini, the way Grace would serve it, naturally.

9. Mr. Sunshine

Set in 1900s Hanseong (contemporary-day Seoul), Mr. Sunshine pays homage to Korean, Western, and Japanese architectural styles, including in its interior design choices.

The set, notably 'The Glory Hotel', is one of the most intelligent on Netflix. It's a beautiful recreation of the Sontag Hotel, Korea's first Western-style accommodation, and comes complete with period-appropriate furniture that will inspire your next redesign.

10. The Crown

The British royal residences are famously counted among the most spectacular homes in the world, and The Crown is the perfect show to familiarize yourself with their splendor. As one might expect from this series, there is no shortage of luxury British-style interiors, complete with richly-hued textures, chintz prints, and delicate antiques that are beautiful enough for royalty.

It's said that great detail went into the set's historical accuracy, from the clothing to the interior design, meaning you can travel from the 1940s to the modern day while observing ever-changing interior trends along the way.

'For those who prefer neutral color palettes but wish to add a hint of color to their homes, blue is a great choice,' explains design expert Shelley Cochrane.

'The rise of warm minimalism and moody maximalism has opened the door for deeper, richer colors to take center stage. Red is no longer just bold; it’s warm, grounding, and even romantic. Blue, depending on the shade, can be cool and cerebral or soft and serene.'

Nina recommends using a set ratio when mixing blue and red to keep things balanced.

'For a harmonious look, pick a dominant color and let the other play a supporting role,' she suggests. 'A midnight blue velvet sofa against a rust-red plaster wall reads layered and intentional. Or go the other way: a cherry lacquered cabinet in an otherwise navy room makes for a chic, modern focal point.'

Additionally, she says that the inclusion of natural materials can help a blue and red space look more cohesive.

'To soften the contrast, incorporate wood, stone, or leather,' she says. 'A red rug and blue curtains feel more grounded when paired with oak floors or travertine accents. These materials buffer the boldness and add warmth.'

Despite its bad reputation, the color brown is due for a comeback as a major 2025 color trend. 'Once dismissed as fusty and old-fashioned, the popularity of brown interiors continues to rise thanks to its universal appeal – it works within both traditional and contemporary settings and complements most colorways,' says Lena Gierasinska, interior design expert at Barker and Stonehouse. 'It’s also reminiscent of the outdoors, meaning it has a nurturing influence when used within the home.'

If you want to recreate the contemporary California feel of this space in your own home, start small.

Lena advises: 'My top tip is to use this color sparingly so that its richness doesn’t feel overbearing. Choose larger pieces of furniture in walnut shades, like sofas and sideboards, but offset these against a plain, light-colored backdrop. This way, the brown furniture will inject warmth and character into the room but will also feel unobtrusive and let other elements stand out.'

Luckily, it's easy to decorate with brown with a low commitment. And the best place to harness the restorative nature of brown? Why not start with the bedroom? Choose a bed crafted from reclaimed wood – the natural materials coupled with the earthy tones will feel like a balm for the soul.'

As the second space where you spend the most time after home, the decor of an office is of utmost importance. Incorporating stylish, calming colors is the best way to make sure it feels ultra-rejuvenating.

The expert gardener recently shared a snap of her fresh-cut, pink roses to her Instagram page, and it turns out they were personally curated by (and named after) Martha Stewart herself. 'The rose, which I chose as the Martha Rose two years ago, is now a real product,' Martha states in the caption. 'It is a sturdy bush, the flowers are large and abundant, and they are extremely fragrant.'

They are also noticeably fresh and healthy-looking, making us consider rose care strategies. Luckily, we got expert insight so that you can achieve long-lasting blooms like Martha.

First and foremost, when considering ways to keep flowers fresh, experts say that trimming the stems is crucial to the growth and longevity of roses.

'One of the biggest mistakes people make is not cutting the stems properly,' explains expert florist David Denyer from Eflorist. 'Always cut each stem at a 45-degree angle, ideally under running water or submerged in a bowl of water. This helps prevent air from entering the stems, which can block water uptake and accelerate the process of wilting. The angled cut also increases surface area for hydration.'

We all know that changing water in a vase is necessary, but the temperature itself is also a determining factor in how long a bouquet will thrive.

'Roses prefer cool water,' David explains. 'Change it daily to prevent bacteria from building up, and always rinse the vase thoroughly before refilling. Remove any leaves that would sit below the waterline. They rot quickly and can contaminate the water.'

Finally, consider where you are placing flowers. While roses make fantastic table decor, placing them near windows can cause them to die faster.

'Heat and direct sunlight may make your roses open more quickly but will shorten their overall lifespan,' David says. 'Instead, place your roses in a cooler spot, away from radiators, appliances, or sunny windowsills. Even a few degrees cooler can make a big difference.'

This summer, we're entertaining like Martha. Beautiful, vibrant roses are the perfect place to start.

As expected, creating a floating kitchen shelf with the same impact as Chrissy's is an art. However, with some planning and hidden accessories (discreet wall brackets, we're looking at you), it's possible to achieve a similar aesthetic.

'To create that clean, 'floating' open shelving look in a kitchen, the key is simplicity and clever concealment,' comments Claire Garner, the director at Claire Garner Design Studio.

'Choose wall-mounted shelves with hidden brackets [such as this one from Amazon] or floating shelf systems that are anchored directly into the studs, which will give the illusion that the shelves are weightlessly suspended,' Claire explains.

The materials you use are similarly important. 'Choose materials with a slim profile, like oak or powder-coated steel, which will help to add elegance without the visual bulk,' she explains. 'When styling your shelving, aim to keep it minimal by grouping items by colour or material, and leaving a little breathing room between objects so the wall still feels light and open.'

I hope to bring this look into my kitchen sometime very soon. In the meantime, I'll keep returning to Chrissy's space as the most magical space I've seen so far this year. It's truly stunning.

Dayna Isom Johnson, trend expert at Etsy explains: 'There are multiple decades that are having a moment at the exact same time. I think this is the first time ever that this has happened, and I think it's because more and more people are ditching the rules and instead embracing their own personal style and their own personal flair.'

Though designing a home that feels like you isn't necessarily easy, it can be intuitive. Dayna advises: 'Readers should embrace items that are a true reflection of their personal style and not something that they're heavily influenced on that doesn't speak to them.'

To add character to a home in this way, take inspiration not as a rulebook, but as a jumping off point. Dayna states: 'I think it can be intimidating if you're trying to replicate something and not tell your own story. I think there's a difference between being inspired and being able to put your own spin on it versus exactly replicating an image you see online. Be inspired by the colors, be inspired by the shapes, be inspired by the aesthetic, and then translate that into what it means to your personal style.'

‘I really think it's about how you choose to create that look within your own space and that's how it remains timeless. You can't copy and paste from the magazine page. You have to do it in a way that works for you,' she concludes.

With the right influences and inflection of personal style, anyone can create interiors as influential as Georgia O'Keeffe's entryway. Design is subjective, but personality is universal.

As you might expect from a country singer, Trisha Yearwood's collection is traditional yet luxurious, lending itself to a farmhouse decor style. I believe this is down to the feelings these design elements evoke, creating a wellness-inducing interior that transports us to warmer climates and helps us reminisce about carefree days on holiday with our loved ones. Last year, we brought touches of the Amalfi Coast into our living spaces with the Amalficore trend and, this year, it appears the Greek Islands are influencing our outdoor spaces, with Grecian Gardens set to be the trend of summer 2025.'

To recreate the Green decor trend in your garden, a blue and white color palette is the perfect beginning.

Charlotte advises: 'To create an authentic Grecian garden, you need to ensure you start with the right color palette to set the tone. Seeking inspiration from the art of Greece is a great place to start for your color theme. For instance, cool blues and clean whites are synonymous with the architectural colors renowned with the luxury island of Santorini, as well as giving nod to the porcelain ornaments renowned with the work of Greek artisans.'

She continues: 'To work this color palette into your garden, opt for a crisp white shade as your main base color and layer with bright blue tones, as well as lighter shades to create a balanced, yet authentic Grecian look. You can accent the blue tones in your garden through furnishings and patterns like striped rugs and porcelain plant pots to add an airy and breezy feel to capture the essence of the coastline of Greece.'

So goes the 'unexpected red theory,' popularized by the interior designer Taylor Simon on TikTok. The theory gained widespread attention in early 2024. It advocates for incorporating a pop of red where it is seemingly out of place in your interiors, whether through a cushion, lamp, or rug. It was quickly followed by spin-off theories, such as 'unexpected blue' and 'unexpected yellow.'

However, the origins of the popular color trend go back much further; designers and chic people alike have always relied on the power of red to brighten and embolden a space. For evidence, look no further than Sophia Loren's living room in 1986.

Often, the latest trend is something completely new, but a reiteration of an older idea. Chances are, in 20 years, the unexpected red theory will be rebranded. Those with their eyes to the timeless will recognize that it always has been, and always will be, a great look.

'My large vegetable garden, which is now in its third growing season, is planted with many wonderful crops – tomatoes, brassicas, artichokes, fava beans, celery, carrots, sweet and hot peppers, peas, all sorts of herbs, and so much more,' Martha captioned her Instagram post, sharing some of the photos from the blog.

'It’s easy to spot where the tomatoes are growing by all the bamboo stakes,' she writes on her blog. 'If you’ve ever grown a vining plant, you know how important it is to provide strong structures to which the vines can cling and climb. I stake my tomatoes in stages, using taller, stronger supports as the plants develop.'

She continues, 'I always grow an abundance of tomatoes to share and to make all the delicious tomato sauce I enjoy throughout the year. It’s a good idea to grow a range of varieties, including at least one or two disease-resistant types.'

Among all her traditional summer veg, like kale, sugar snap peas, and artichokes, she also has opted for a delicious, protein-packed plant.

'My gardeners planted a crop of edamame or young soybeans,' she writes.

'They are known for being nutrient-rich, gluten-free, and low in calories, making them a healthy addition to a meal or appetizer eaten alone. The term “edamame” translates to “beans on a branch” in Japanese.'

She explains that spacing out seeds is crucial to their healthy growth: 'The seeds should be planted about an inch deep and four inches apart in rows that are spaced about 15 inches from each other. Once the seeds are pushed into the soil, the rows are raked, marked, and watered. The growing time for edamame is about 95 days.'

Alyson Hannigan's fireplace is proof that architectural features in a space can be the ultimate decoration.

The How I Met Your Mother star recently shared a photo of her living area on her Instagram page, and we were taken by the intricate detailing of her white fireplace amid the contemporary accessories of the room. It's giving us some fantastic fireplace ideas.

'Invest in quality and provenance,’ suggests antique restorer and founder of fireplace specialist Renaissance London, Owen Pacey.

‘It makes total sense as these fireplaces can sell a home. If your property is on the market, you need to stand out, and buyers will remember the one with the lovely original fireplace.’

If your home does not already include a fireplace, Owen says that it's best to select a style based on your existing architectural details.

‘I’d always recommend sticking to the period of the house when looking to purchase a fireplace,' he explains.

'This ensures that the styles align and the fireplace will look like it’s always been there. In the Georgian period, they made tens of thousands of bullseye style fireplaces, so this style is very typical in properties of that time. Similarly, with Victorian, the most common design is Carrara marble with a shell design on the corbels. Edwardian fireplaces are beautifully intricate, mainly tiled and made from either cast iron or slate, with an Art Nouveau feel to them as well.'

He continues, ‘If you are unsure of the period of the house, a really good tip is to politely ask your neighbors to see if they have any original features in their house you can look at. It’s the best way to find out. Otherwise, you can gain a pretty good idea of the period of the house from the street view.’

While adding a vase or decorative object to a fireplace can certainly add some character and dimension to a living area, be careful not to overdo it, as this can make the space feel cluttered and take away from a fireplace's intricate details.
