This is not the most photogenic member of the KitchenAid family. If you were expecting the glossy colors and retro curves of the best KitchenAid stand mixers, think again. The juicer is functional, but a little plain to look at.

Inside the box, you'll find a 16 oz reservoir bowl, a single reamer, a stainless steel sieve, a 12V Max rechargeable battery and a handy USB charging cable.

The KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer charges quickly and feels reassuringly solid. I wouldn’t think twice about tucking it into a weekend bag for a trip to the lakes or a friend's garden party.

Is it easy to use?

I spend a lot of time reviewing the best cold press juicers, and they can be a bit tricky to get your head around. However, the KitchenAid Go Cordless Citrus Juicer has very simple controls.

The juicer is ready to use almost out of the box. I simply charged it up (which didn't take very long), then rinsed the parts, and it was ready to start juicing. There’s no power button; the reamer begins to spin automatically when you press your citrus fruit onto it.

Test 1: Orange juice

The main test for a citrus juicer is fresh oranges, and the KitchenAid passed with ease. I tried using a Kilner jar to collect the juice at first, but the rim was too wide and caused some spillage. Switching to the built-in reservoir and pouring from the tap once the juice was ready worked much better. The strainer collected all the pulp and seeds for me, and the resulting orange juice was fresh and clean.

Test 2: Grapefruit & lime juice

It was equally simple and effortless to juice a large grapefruit, but when I checked my glass of juice, I could see a few tiny seeds floating which had escaped through the sieve. I had to run it through a finer strainer to solve the issue. I would have been disappointed, but the seeds were unusually tiny, so I am inclined to blame that particular grapefruit variety.

Later that day, my partner and I took the juicer out to the garden and made a non-alcoholic Paloma with more fresh grapefruit, lime, and soda water from our cordless Smeg soda maker. Juicing outside was a dream, as I didn't have to walk back up to the house when we wanted a refill. It is my dream to have an outdoor kitchen with a drinks-making station, and I could see how the KitchenAid cordless juicer would help fulfill that.

Cleaning

I am pleased to say that the clean-up was fairly painless. The pulp collects neatly and is easily tipped out. Every removable part – the reservoir bowl, reamer, removable knob, and stainless steel sieve – is dishwasher safe. The parts are fairly easy to hand-wash with a scrubbing brush, too . As someone who has spent hours scrubbing the corners of cold-press juicers with an old toothbrush, this was a welcome change.

How does it compare?

The Smeg Citrus Juicer is still the best I've ever tested. First off, it is beautiful enough to keep on the counter with its 1950s Italian charm and powder-coated finish in shades like powder blue and creamy white – or even Dolce & Gabbana florals.

It also has a weighty, premium feel that gives it an edge over KitchenAid’s lighter alternative. With the Smeg, I could gently maneuver the fruit around the reamer to extract every last drop, thanks to its sturdy base. By contrast, the KitchenAid Go can wobble slightly if you apply pressure off-center.

That said, the KitchenAid Go Cordless Electric Juicer is lightweight because it is designed to roam. Plus, the Smeg comes at a very steep price, whereas the KitchenAid rival is much more affordable.

What do customer reviews say?

Reviewers echo my experience: the KitchenAid Go Cordless design is a game-changer for juicing large quantities of citrus or prepping family-sized dishes. Several owners mentioned that it’s perfect for apartment living or kitchens where multiple appliances compete for power outlets.

It is one of the most effective, useful appliances I've tested; with the added perk of being cordless, so you can move it around the counter and even take it outside or on vacation. Just remember not to lose the charger.

Touching the mattress's surface properly for the first time, it was so noticeably cool to touch that I could see his confusion. And as I left my hand to sink slightly into the mattress, that cooling feeling didn't instantly disperse. It was a hot day in late August, so I couldn't wait to see if the lovely cooling effects my hand was enjoying would translate to my whole body and finally I could get a restful night's sleep, Spoiler: my husband and I, plus our dog, (probably one of the reasons I overheat) had a great, sweat-free night's sleep.

So the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress was off to a great start, and I would say it's the best cooling mattress I have tried. So if you are a hot sleeper like me or get hot flashes, it would suit. But it does have a few flaws; it's not the best mattress in the world for motion isolation, and the edge support could be better. My bed sits in the corner of the room, so I have to exit the bed from the end, something that did feel noticeably more difficult with the Leesa.

This is also a luxury mattress, and comes with a luxury price tag, but it's often in the mattress sales. I would say you'll likely never have to pay full price.

Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress – a hot sleeper's honest opinion

The Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress comes in at just under $3,000 for a queen (although it's currently on sale for $2,290), so it's definitely not the best affordable mattress, but it's not at the extreme end of a luxury mattress price either.

So, if you aren't sleeping properly because you are a hot sleeper, I think it's worth the money to sort out that issue forever – and it has done that for me.

Who would the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress suit?

• Hot sleepers: I think you probably get it now that this mattress is best for hot sleepers. I have never slept on a cooling mattress that hasn't eventually warmed up to my toasty body temperature throughout the night. This mattress stays cool, and while the temperature does rise slightly, when I move around in my sleep, it's like flipping the pillow to the cool side, and I feel the effects all over again.
• Back and stomach sleepers: the medium mattress firmness of the Leesa means it should technically suit all sleeping positions. However, I found it slightly more medium-firm than medium and felt this supported me better when I slept on my front than on my side. I switch between the two sleep positions, and when on my front, I was well supported with no sagging, so my spine felt well aligned, but on my side, there just wasn't quite enough give for me to feel fully supported. That being said, my partner, who is heavier than me, didn't have this issue sleeping on his side, so it could suit heavier side sleepers.
• Anyone who wants support but not the 'sink in' feel of memory foam: while I see the appeal, I have never gotten on well with memory foam mattresses. That instant pillowy feel is too soft, I like the supportive feel even from the first layer. The Leesa still has a bit of give, but it cradles around you rather than sinks around you.

What's it like to sleep on the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress?

• Thermoregulation: the top cover is infused with cooling fibers, and Leesa advertises that the mattress will 'help maintain the ideal skin temperature of 88 degrees'. I can vouch for that as the weather warms up again. The second layer is also designed with cooling in mind and is a quilt foam that's gel-infused for more temperature regulation.
• Pressure relief and support: this is a supportive mattress. It has two foam layers, a micro-spring layer, another foam layer, a spring layer (which includes up to 1,032 individually wrapped springs), and a 'stability layer' which is more foam. Like I said, it doesn't have that memory foam feel when you first lie down, it's plush yes, but it's far more supportive than that. It's the perfect balance of comfortable yet supportive, and it gets the sweet spot between soft enough so you feel cradled, but firm enough so you don't feel like the mattress is rising up around you.
• Motion isolation: I was so happy with the cooling effects of the Leesa, I was almost reluctant to acknowledge it was letting me down when it came to motion isolation. I share a bed with my partner and my dog, and although both are pretty static sleepers, I am a light sleeper, so if either moves, I will wake up. You can really feel others moving in the bed, and my glass of water test proved this flaw. I filled a glass with water and placed it on the mattress. Usually, I would walk around a bit on the mattress, lie next to it, and even get my dog to sit near it. But as soon as I placed it on the mattress, it was obvious that even if I were to push my hand near the glass, it would tip. It didn't totally tip over when I lay in my husband's spot on the bed, but it did tilt considerably.

• Edge support: for a mattress that made me feel so supported while I slept, I had issues with the edge support. The mattress does have higher gauge springs along the sides to help with edge support, but I found I didn't really notice these, and still found it harder than usual work to get out of bed from sitting. However, since I sleep against the wall, so have less risk when it comes to rolling out of bed, I asked my partner, who sleeps on the edge, if he ever felt he was going to fall out, or if the support was weaker at the edge of the bed, and he said he had no issues.
• Delivery: the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress is a box mattress which makes delivery easy, quick, and free (returns are free, too). However, it's a luxe bed, and that does mean it's pretty heavy, so you will need more than one person to maneuver it around and get it upstairs. If you add on White Glove delivery, the team will move and set up your bed for you.
• Sleep trial: you get a 100 night mattress sleep trial with Leesa. You can return your mattress at any point within that window, however Leesa recommends (as do I) that you give it at least 30 nights before deciding it's not right for you.
• Warranty: all Leesa mattresses have a limited lifetime mattress warranty. The T&Cs are extensive, so definitely have a read through the website's warranty help page.

Should you buy the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress?

Despite not being the best mattress for motion isolation, I am giving the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress 4.5 stars. And for someone who shares a bed with a human and an animal, that says something about the cooling properties of this mattress.

If you sleep hot all year round, or live somewhere with a warm climate, I would recommend this mattress. It's the best cooling mattress I have ever tested, and even the best cooling mattress toppers and pads I have been trialing to help improve my sleep have done nothing in comparison to this mattress.

This isn't a cheap mattress, but it's so often listed for less. At the time of writing this, there's almost $750 off the RRP, so make the most of deals while they are on.

How we test mattresses

We put a lot of thought into how we test mattresses. Our sleep editor first matches the right reviewer with the right mattress. When she heard I am a hot sleeper, she assigned me to the Leesa Legend Chill Hybrid Mattress. We have a whole team of testers who live across the country, in different climates, with different sleep needs and different sleep setups. We also test in our own homes, with all the real-life situations that come with that, and we test a minimum of 30 nights before we come to a verdict on a mattress.

We assess each mattress against the same criteria: pressure relief; thermoregulation; motion isolation; and edge support. Pressure relief is quite personal, depending on your sleep position, weight, and what you consider comfortable. But we always try different sleep positions and ask those sharing our beds how they feel too, especially if they have a different sleep style to us.

Thermoregulation means closing the windows, turning off the air conditioning, and seeing how we fare through the night. I tested the Leesa through almost all seasons, the hottest summer evenings, and frosty winter nights, so I can really speak to how it performs all year round.

The motion isolation test involves filling a glass of water, placing it on the mattress, and using weights, or our own weight, to see how it affects the glass and the water within it. Starting from further away and moving closer, we check how much the glass and the water inside moves. The more the glass moves, the worse the motion isolation, and the less we would recommend it for those who share a bed. To assess edge support, we sit on the side of the mattress and measure how far we fall. The further we fall, the worse the edge support, and the harder it might be to get into and out of bed.

Priced just below $2,000 for a Queen, the TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress is much more expensive than the best affordable mattress, but it's highly competitive in the luxury mattress market, and it's one of the best budget options at Tempur-Pedic. If, like me, you're shopping for something to ease your aches and pains, I'd say the TEMPUR-Cloud is well worth the money, but you should still keep an eye on the mattress sales.

Who would the TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress suit?

• Couples: The TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress has admirable motion isolation. That makes it a great choice for anyone who doesn’t like being woken up by a restless partner, couples who get in and out of bed at different times, and straight-forward light sleepers.
• Anyone with aches and pains: like any hybrid mattress, the TEMPUR-Cloud is topped with a thick layer of memory foam which feels very responsive and cushions my joints. Underneath, there are more than 1,000 coils to support your spine and keep it straight overnight.
• All sleep positions: the medium mattress firmness of the TEMPUR-Cloud makes it an excellent choice for couples with varying preferences in mattresses. Like I said, my partner and I have different sleep styles, but we both find the Tempur Cloud very comfortable.

What's it like to sleep on the TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress?

• Pressure relief: on a firmness scale of 1 to 10, I would give the TEMPUR-Cloud a 6.5. I feel supported when I sit on the mattress, but it also provides cushioning for aching joints and responds well to movement throughout the night. Neither my husband nor I wake up with aches and pains, which is the true mark of a great mattress in my book. Notably, the mattress felt firm the first few nights but noticeably softened after about a week of use.
• Thermoregulation: I tend to sleep hot, especially when there's memory foam involved. However, I slept much cooler on the TEMPUR-Cloud than on other mattresses I've tried, likely because of its cooling cover. The weather is warming up here in Washington, D.C., and I'm still sleeping comfortably without AC. For seriously hot sleepers, I'd recommend one of the best cooling mattresses, instead.
• Motion isolation: to test motion isolation, I placed a glass of water on top of the mattress and dropped a 20-pound weight next to the glass. The water did not move much in the glass. I also walked around the mattress, including very close to the glass of water, and the glass still barely moved. This indicates excellent motion isolation, and I felt that in practice. My son tends to toss and turn a lot when he sleeps, which has woken me up while testing other mattresses, but I didn't have that problem with the TEMPUR-Cloud.

• Edge support: to test edge support, I placed a glass of water on the edge of the mattress and then put a 20-pound weight next to the glass. I also walked around the edge of the mattress close to the glass of water. The glass tipped over more than it did on the motion isolation test, which is to be expected when you concentrate the weight in a smaller surface area. However, the glass did not tip over significantly, and no water spilled out of the glass at any point. This indicates that the mattress has excellent edge support, making it easier to get in and out of bed.
• Delivery: the TEMPUR-Cloud is a box mattress, which means it arrives vacuum-packed and wrapped in a cardboard box. I cut the plastic and watched as the mattress began to unroll and expand. In hindsight, it would have been better to place the mattress on the bed frame than the carpet: less heavy lifting. I didn’t notice any mattress off-gassing or strong odors, which makes a nice change.
• Sleep trial: the TEMPUR-Cloud comes with a 90-night mattress sleep trial, which is lower than industry standard. You get less time to test your mattress through the seasons before you have to commit to your purchase. For a similar look and feel with a longer sleep trial, I recommend the Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress.
• Warranty: the TEMPUR-Cloud comes with a 10-year limited mattress warranty, covering all the usual defects in material and manufacture. For a lifetime warranty on a top-rated hybrid, I recommend the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Cooling Mattress.

How does the TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress rate online?

The TEMPUR-Cloud boasts a 4.6 average star rating from 2,045 verified reviews. This rating includes both the Hybrid and the standard version of the mattress.

Many reviewers noted that the TEMPUR-Cloud is 'just right' in various ways. They praised its genuine medium firmness, its ability to regulate temperature and prevent overheating, and its supportive feel. Several reviewers also noted that the TEMPUR-Cloud helped alleviate aches and pains, particularly back pain. Reviewers also noted that the TEMPUR-Cloud is reasonably priced for a luxury mattress.

Should I buy the TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress?

I'm giving the TEMPUR-Cloud the full five stars. Sure, it's a little more expensive than your average hybrid, and there's no option for white glove delivery, but I can't fault the performance.

It's worth saying that I wear a watch that tracks my sleep every night. My sleep score is usually 80, which is in the 'good' range. However, while testing the TEMPUR-Cloud, my sleep score increased slightly to the mid-80s. My average length of sleep and deep sleep also increased slightly. I always feel refreshed and well-rested after spending the night on the TEMPUR-Cloud. I'd recommend it to just about anybody who can afford it.

Look at any 'new in' section of all the most popular homeware brands (Anthropologie, Lulu & Georgia, Magnolia to name a few) and you will find some form of wicker or rattan home decor right up top. For the sake of a fair fight, I'm picking a similar mattress from each store: the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress and the Layla Hybrid Mattress. Which is the best mattress for you depends on a number of factors, including how you tend to lie on the bed and whether you run hot or cold.

Before we begin, I'd like to introduce our two testers. Millie Hurst, our former Head of Solved, sampled the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress. Aleenah Ansari, one of our freelance mattress testers, tried the Layla Hybrid Mattress.

The Layla Hybrid Mattress is dual-sided: also known as a flippable mattress. One side feels Firm, and the other is more of a medium: all you need to do is lift and flip to find your ideal mattress firmness. As a general rule, side sleepers prefer a softer surface to cushion their joints, while back and stomach sleepers appreciate firmer support to keep their spine aligned.

That's not to say the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress is uncomfortable: it just isn't quite as versatile. 'It took me a few weeks to get used to the feeling of being 'hugged' by my mattress, but I've learned to love it,' says Millie. 'Now, over a year later, I wouldn't want to sleep on anything else. There's just enough give to cushion my joints, but not so much give that it throws my spine out of alignment.'

Nectar vs Layla – Thermoregulation

WINNER: Layla

It's a close contest. These hybrid mattresses are founded on stainless steel springs, which push air through the bed as they compress and decompress beneath your body weight, and topped with pressure-relieving memory foam.

What separates the Layla Hybrid Mattress is the use of gel memory foam. Gel beads are better than foam at absorbing thermal energy, which makes the Layla Hybrid Mattress slightly cooler to the touch than your average hybrid.

Still, I wouldn't say that either the Layla Hybrid Mattress or the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress rank amongst the best cooling mattresses. If you suffer from night sweats or hot flashes, I recommend you explore other options. The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress would offer superior cooling at a similar price point.

Nectar vs Layla – Motion isolation

WINNER: It's a tie

'Your average average hybrid mattress has a bit of bounce, which makes it easier to get into and out of bed, but makes for a bit of motion transfer,' Aleenah explains. 'That's why I was so impressed with the motion isolation on the Layla Hybrid Mattress. When my partner got out of bed in the morning or in the middle of the night, I couldn't feel it over on my side.'

To measure the motion transfer through the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress, Millie conducted a test: 'I filled a glass with water and set it in the middle of the mattress. Then, I asked my friend to climb onto the bed and walk around the mattress. The closer she came to the glass, the more it started to move, but she never spilled a drop of water. For a hybrid mattress, that's as good as it gets. I'd happily recommend this mattress for couples and light sleepers.'

Nectar vs Layla – Edge support

WINNER: Layla

The Layla Hybrid Mattress boasts reinforced edges, thanks to a double-lining of supportive steel coils around the sides. Aleenah says: 'I could comfortably sit on the side of the bed to apply lotion or tie my shoes without worrying that I'd start to slip. I did create a big dip in the mattress, though.'

Millie notes that the edge support on the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress is a marked improvement on the Nectar Memory Foam, but acknowledges: 'that's a low bar to clear. I could perch on the edge of the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress to apply lotion or tie my shoes without slipping straight off the sides, but I wouldn't want to sleep on the very edge of the mattress.'

I asked Aleenah and Millie which mattress they recommend for optimal edge support. Both came back with the same answer: the WinkBeds Luxury Hybrid Mattress.

Nectar vs Layla – Practical points

WINNER: Nectar

Both Nectar and Layla are box mattress brands. Their mattresses arrive vacuum-packed, delivered to your door. When you cut the plastic, you might notice a chemical sort of smell. That's the mattress off-gassing, emitting VOCs into your bedroom. The smell shouldn't be dangerous, but it is unpleasant. The best way to speed up the process to crack open a window and close the bedroom door, leaving your box mattress to off-gas for a full 24 hours before you try to sleep on it.

Where Nectar offers a limited lifetime mattress warranty, Layla only offers a 10-year warranty that protects against split seams and loss of shape beyond one inch. Still, it's important to put those figures into context: even the best hybrid mattress is unlikely to last more than a decade.

Where Layla offers a 120-night mattress sleep trial, Nectar offers 365 nights: that gives you a whole year to get used to the look and feel of your mattress before you commit to your purchase.

Nectar vs Layla – Which should I buy?

As the victor of three out of five categories, the Layla Hybrid Mattress wins the great debate of Nectar vs Leesa. The flippable firmness is a great feature for guest bedrooms, where you never know who will come to stay and how they'll get their best sleep. The Layla Hybrid Mattress is around $400 more expensive than the Nectar Premier Hybrid, but I'd say the performance matches the price.

If you're buying on a budget, and you just want the best affordable mattress, then the Nectar Premier Hybrid Mattress might be more suitable for you. You'll save $400 to spend on sheets, pillows, and everything else you need for a good night's sleep, and you still get excellent motion isolation, a lifetime warranty, and a longer sleep trial.

How we test mattresses

As the resident Sleep Editor here at Homes & Gardens, I lead a team of expert testers in the search to find the world's best mattress. Together, we represent a wide range of ages, sleep styles, and body types, and we live all over the country in all sorts of climates. We test mattresses for a minimum of 30 nights before we write our initial reviews to get the best indication of long-term performance. We assess each mattress against the same criteria: pressure relief; thermoregulation; motion isolation; and edge support. To assess pressure relief, we lie on the mattress and move between our stomachs, backs, and sides, considering how comfortable and supported we feel in each position. To assess thermoregulation, we switch off our HVAC to sleep through all weathers, making note of any night where we wake up in a sweat.

To assess motion isolation, we fill a glass with water and set it in the middle of the mattress. Then, we place a weight on the mattress, moving incrementally closer to the glass. The more the glass moves and the more water spills, the worse the motion isolation, and the less suitable the mattress might be for couples and light sleepers. To assess edge support, we sit on the side of the mattress and measure how far we sink. The further we fall, the worse the edge support, and the harder it might be to get into and out of bed.

Where possible, we compare our findings against verified customer reviews to get a better idea of long-term performance. We also consider the practical side of mattress shopping: the details of delivery; the length of the sleep trial; and the extent of the mattress warranty. To celebrate a whopping one hundred years of culinary heritage, Le Creuset has turned back time to its very first hue: Flamme Dorée. And I suppose good things only get better, because this limited edition is finished with the most gorgeous, shimmering enamel sheen.

Le Creuset explains: 'In 1925, two Belgian industrialists – an enameling specialist and an expert in casting – were the first to enamel a cast iron cocotte. The fiery orange hue, inspired by the color of molten ore in a crucible, or creuset, became our signature color.'

So, what makes the 100th-anniversary design so special? The new Le Creuset collection has been polished with a third layer of enamel coating, enhanced with light-catching minerals for a shimmering finish. The final touch is a gold-plated, steel knob on the lid. For cult cookware fans (myself included), it is both classic and exciting.

The warm orange hue certainly has an air of celebration, like a roaring fire, or even a birthday candle. If it doesn't float your boat, I have some advice: when exciting new releases like this pop up, it's always a good idea to check the Le Creuset sales – just in case you can surreptitiously snag an older piece on clearance.

Why didn’t we get to see the Ratcliff family react to their financial tragedy? How did Lochlan recover so quickly from the deadly smoothie? And why – how – is that old man Rick’s dad?

One thing that wasn’t frustrating, especially to a geeky kitchen appliances editor (that’s me), was the blender performance. Rivalling the best blenders 2025, Bosch deserves five stars for its killer White Lotus performance.

In The White Lotus season finale, which aired on Sky last Sunday April 6, Timothy Ratcliff (Jason Isaacs) storms into his luxury suite and whips up piña coladas laced with poisonous fruit seeds.

Powerful, fast, and oddly satisfying to watch, the blender creates a frothy, refreshing drink the Ratcliff family can’t wait to sip. Until Timothy suddenly changes his mind and slaps the glass out of his son Saxon’s (Patrick Schwarzenegger) hands. It’s all very dramatic and beautifully shot (we were of course obsessed with recreating those laid-back Thai interiors).

While the Bosch blender that the actors use is currently M.I.A in U.S. stores, fear not: there are a few other high-performance blenders that offer the same lethal speed, sleek design, and cocktail-bar-worthy results as the White Lotus star. These are my top picks if you want to blend like a Ratcliff (minus the murder plot and weird family dynamics).

Just be sure to clean your blender properly after use – unlike The White Lotus's unwitting Lochlan Ratcliff (Sam Nivola), who ends up drinking the poisonous residue left behind in the unwashed pitcher.

• Baffle-box construction: a method of making comforters. A thin strip of fabric (a 'baffle') is stitched between the top and bottom layers of the comforter to create small fabric pockets (or 'boxes'). Instead of slipping and sliding inside the comforter, creating lumps, bumps, and cold patches, the fill is confined to the baffle-boxes for a more even look and feel.
• Bamboo: one of the most popular bed sheet types. Naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial to bust the bacteria that breed in hot, sticky environments, bamboo is a great option for hot sleepers and eco-conscious shoppers.
• Bed skirt: a decorative piece of fabric that flows from the top of the bed down to the floor. A great way to disguise box springs or bed frame legs, and keep dust from building up under the bed. Also known as a valance or a dust ruffle.
• Bedspread: a type of bed cover that drapes over the bed and drops down to the floor. A finishing decorative touch and an extra layer of warmth.

• Comforter: a thick, quilted bed covering, filled with down or down alternative and wrapped in a fabric shell. The difference between a comforter and a duvet is that a duvet comprises two parts – the insert and the cover − whereas a comforter is one integrated piece.
• Cotton percale: a crisp, cool weave, the sort you tend to find in high-end hotels. Woven one-thread-over, one-thread-under, cotton percale is breathable and durable, able to withstand cycles in the washing machine, but it doesn't feel as smooth as cotton sateen.
• Cotton sateen: a smooth, silky weave. Woven three-threads-over, one-thread-under, cotton sateen is a tight weave, designed to retain heat. Less suitable for hot sleepers but ideal for winter weather. All those exposed threads catch the light to create a lustrous sheen.
• Coverlet: a lightweight decorative bed covering, thinner than a quilt or comforter. Ideal for hot sleepers and summer nights, or as an additional layer during cooler months.

• Down: the soft, fluffy undercoating on ducks and geese, used as fill for comforters and duvets. Naturally adapted for insulation, so ideal for cold sleepers and winter weather. Plenty of natural loft for a nice, puffy bedspread.
• Duvet: a thick bed covering, filled with down or down alternative. Designed to be used with a separate, removable fabric cover: the duvet case. When it comes to duvets vs comforters, duvets are warmer and weightier, and often more expensive.
• Egyptian cotton: a species of cotton plant, also known as Gossypium Barbadense, which grows exclusively in the fertile soil of the River Nile. Egyptian cotton is made from long, strong, fine fibers which create luxurious sheets.
• Eucalyptus: a popular material for bed sheets. Naturally moisture-wicking and hypoallergenic with a soft, silky texture. Often processed into Tencel.

• Fill power: a number that indicates the quality of down, measured in cubic inches per ounce. The more space down takes up inside a duvet or comforter, the higher the fill power, which indicates greater loft and insulating efficiency. The best warm comforter would have a high fill power, while the best cooling comforter would have a lower fill power.
• Fitted sheet: a sheet that covers the top and sides of a mattress. Often comes with elasticated corners for a secure fit. Also known as a bottom sheet.
• Flat sheet: a rectangular sheet that layers on top of a fitted sheet and beneath a comforter or duvet. An additional layer for warmth or decoration. Also known as a top sheet.
• Flax: a flowering plant used to make linen. Flax fibers are entirely hollow, which makes linen ultra-breathable.

• GSM: a measurement of the weight of a fabric. Stands for 'grams per square meter'. The higher the GSM, the thicker and denser the fabric. The best cooling sheets are lightweight, with a lower GSM, while the best warm bed sheets would have a higher GSM.

• Linen: a popular material for bedding. Woven from the strong, hollow fibers of the flax plant, linen is breathable and durable. Word to the wise: even the best linen sheets are prone to wrinkling, but I'd encourage you to embrace the creases as part of linen's natural charm.
• Mattress pad: a cross between a mattress protector and a mattress topper. A thin, padded layer that goes on top of a mattress to guard against sweat, spills, and stains and enhance the look and feel of your mattress.

• Nurse's tuck: a bed-making technique by which the flat sheet is diagonally folded and tightly tucked beneath the mattress, creating a smooth surface. I wanted to see how the new Ninja Crispi design performed against the best air fryers we've tested and rated, so I tried it on our standardized tests: French fries, chicken, and roasted vegetables. I was impressed by its ease of use, quick cooking abilities, and convenient form, but it does have a few downfalls, such as a lack of temperature controls and small capacity. Here’s how the Ninja Crispi fared in my testing, as well as who I think will love this portable air fryer.

First impressions

Available in Cyberspace, Stone, and Sage Green (pictured above), the Ninja Crispi looks like a tiny spaceship in your kitchen. Theoretically, the compact design allows you to pack up this air fryer and take it on vacation or to the office. Although it is small and sleek, I'd say it’s still a bit hefty for tossing into a backpack. At almost 16 lbs, it would be equivalent to carrying a bowling ball or a large pack of dog food around.

When I first unboxed the Ninja Crispi, I was taken aback at just how many pieces were in the box. In addition to the 'PowerPod', which is the top portion that contains the heating elements and control panel, this unit comes with two glass cooking containers, each with its own crisping plate and lid. There’s also a 'Big Batch Container Adapter' that you attach to the PowerPod so it fits properly on the large cooking vessel.

There are definitely a lot of pieces to sort through, but once I figured out how they all stacked together, the air fryer didn’t take up that much space on my counter. You can nest the bowls and their crisping plates inside each other, and it ends up being around half the size of a full-size air fryer. It's easy to stack away in a cupboard neatly, which is ideal if you don't want a countertop fixture.

Cooking performance

I tested the Ninja Crispi over the course of a week, using it to cook a variety of foods in my kitchen. I made sure to run our standard tests with this air fryer, which included cooking French fries, frozen nuggets, roasted vegetables, and roast chicken. We're looking for crispy textures and tender proteins in speedy times. Here’s how it fared.

Test 1: Frozen fries and chicken tenders

The first time I used the Ninja Crispi, I cooked a serving of frozen chicken tenders and waffle fries for lunch. I opted to use the larger of the two glass containers, which can easily hold one or two servings of food. I selected the Air Fry setting on the control panel, and I was surprised to find that there’s no option to select a cooking temperature. After consulting the manual, I realized that it automatically sets the temperature based on the mode you select – in this case, the Air Fry setting cooks at 400-425 degrees.

I initially put the food in for 12 minutes, shaking it halfway, but it needed a few extra minutes to develop a nice brown exterior. Overall, I was pleased with the results – the chicken tenders were warmed through, and the French fries were nice and crispy.

Test 2: Roasted Brussels sprouts
